Calabrisella Mia

Calabria is associated in the minds of many people with the ‘Ndrangheta – the Calabrian Mafia. Sadly the region’s rich culture and diversity, its history that contains names such as Pythagoras and Richard the Lionheart is largely unknown by the world and even more sadly, by the Calabrese themselves. Calabrisella Mia is a planned 10-part documentary that hopes to shed some light on this incredible region of Italy and on the lives of the tens of thousands of Calabrese that emigrated to Australia in search of a better life. Episode 1: Gli Emigrati is now available and looks at the history of Calabria and the many reasons that caused an estimated 1.5 million people to leave its shores between 1870 and 1970.
