La Voce Della Luna is a Melbourne based multi-generational Italian Women’s Choir which has been singing Italian folk songs since 1996 when they came together, under the direction of Kavisha Mazzella, to sing in the stage production of Emma! Celebrazione! at The Malthouse.

Now, with their new Musical Director since July 2013, Elvira Andreoli, they present to their ‘fans’ and new audiences around the world, their third CD – an eclectic collection of favourite songs from Italy and Australia, realised with the collaboration of Indigenous singer-songwriter Joe Geia; the talented Neapolitan singer Annamaria Colasanto; multi-instrumentalist Phil Carroll; and Hurdy-Gurdy aficionado Alexander Parise.

The choir’s expansive and popular repertoire speaks of love, loss, war, poverty, pain, turmoil, rebellion and injustice, celebrations, harvest, the seasons, JOY, of ‘times gone by long ago’, as well as of the ever present ‘nostalgia’ of the migrant experience. In fact, all facets of human nature and experience are covered in these songs which emanate from all parts of Italy and its history from the 1500s to the present day!

“They are not a choir; they are a force of nature!” – The Age

An evening with La Voce Della Luna is an evening of rustic, raw and beautiful music from folklore Italy and beyond.

La Voce Della Luna (it means “The Voice of the Moon” in Italian) is a Melbourne-based multigenerational Italian Women’s Choir performing Italian folk songs since 1996. The choir’s expansive and popular repertoire speaks of love, loss, war, poverty, pain, turmoil, rebellion and injustice, celebrations, harvest, the seasons, JOY, of ‘times gone by long ago’, as well as of the ever-present ‘nostalgia’ of the migrant experience. In fact, all facets of the human nature and experience are covered in these songs which emanate from all parts of Italy and its history from the 1500s to the present day!

The choir play to audiences all over Melbourne and regional Victoria and beyond. Their show is a collaboration with Singer Guitarist/Musical Director Elvira Andreoli, Phil Carroll on Piano Accordion, and special guest Neapolitan songstress Annamaria Colasanto. The audience is promised an evening of rich, fulfilling oftentimes funny depiction of life in Italy then and now – a story told through music and song.

The women, aged between 44 and 84, are from all over Melbourne; most of them are immigrants to Australia and some are born here. Their music is vibrant and sassy, it’s spicy, free and alive – and it speaks in a language all can understand! All you need is heart to decode it!

Under the guidance and arrangements of new Musical Director Elvira Andreoli since 2013 and a fresh injection of new songs together with their old ones they bring you sounds from the Alpine Italian Northern region all the way down to the deep Southern roots of Calabria. Join us as we celebrate 20 years of La Voce Della Luna in 2016 and raise a glass to the next 20 years to come!

Live music presented from all over Italy, modern folk as well as solo performances – it promises to be an evening like no other.

Come and share with us.
