Diaspore italiane - Italy in Movement

Date
4 April - 8 April 2018
04:00pm to 01:00pm

You are invited to the conference “Diaspore italiane: Italy in Movement – Part 1”, at CO.AS.IT. on 4-8 April 2018.

The conference is a one-off opportunity to come together to celebrate and share the Italian Australian experience and learn about other Italian communities in the world, Italian colonial history and immigration to Italy.

There is a rich program on offer with over 100 presenters from Australia, Italy, the US and other countries. The presenters are specialists in Italian Australian studies, Italian migration studies, Italian diaspora studies and connected disciplines.

The opening day, the round table on Italian-Indigenous relations, the exhibition of Italian Australian artists, the Italian Australian creative writing panel and the six keynote presentations are free. The parallel sessions on 5, 6 and 7 April attract very reasonable registration fees.

You can view the program here: Diaspore italiane_Program. Please RSVP for the sessions you wish to attend here: Diaspore italiane_Registration, before Wednesday 28 March at 5PM.

Growing global mobility, interconnectedness and hybridisation ensure that the conference theme, namely Italianness in all contexts defined by mobility, is increasingly relevant to the field of Italian studies, which can no longer be limited by traditional Italocentric perspectives. Therefore the conference is also an attempt to gauge the (transnational) future of Italian identity and culture and, more broadly, an exploration of the contexts of migration, diaspora and translation as “spaces of reason” in which to hone practices of dialogue and civil coexistence for the 21st century.
