The Heroic Years of Italian-Australian Cycling photographic exhibition
- Date
- 20 May - 18 July 2014
Cycling has always been close to the heart of Italians. Names like Gino Bartali and Fausto Coppi are universally recognised among sport enthusiasts.
The same enthusiasm was brought overseas by migrants during the 1950s and 1960s and allowed many new expressions of Italian identity.
The exhibition is not only about the sport, but about the people and the community who made cycling, along with other sports, a point of pride, an element of cultural identity and social integration.
The exhibition draws from the photographic collection of the Italian Historical Society and from the generous contributions of members of the Italian-Australian community.
It also hosts several objects, kindly made available by the Borsari and the Catalano families, such as period bicycles, original cycling gear and competition medals.
The exhibition will run from 9 May to 18 July 2014.
