Event overview:
Join us in welcoming the world renown Maestro Giuliano Cameli from San Benedetto del Tronto, Ascoli Piceno, for an evening of exquisite music in the Conference Room at Co.As.It. Museo italiano. The evening will feature Maestro Giuliani playing traditional tunes on his diatonic accordion (organetto), the predecessor of the button and piano accordion.
The event is in collaboration with the Associazione Marche del Victoria, a non profit organization whose work is to promote Le Marche to the Italian Australian and wider Victorian communities.
The Associazione is also committed in fundraising for various organizations such as the Olivia Newton John Wellness Centre, the Austin Hospital and Mercy Public. Maestro Giuliano will also donate one of his performances to the Co.As.It. Senior Day Centre in Carlton as a gift to the elderly Italians in Melbourne.
The musician:
Giuliano Cameli showed a strong interest in the accordion from a very tender age. Following formal musical studies in theory, practice and composition, in 1984 he published a “Method for the study of the diatonic accordion”, a “Collection of traditional tunes for the diatonic accordion” and a recording for music publisher Berben in Ancona, Marche. In 1988 he was awarded the title of “World Champion of diatonic accordion” at Santa Maria Nuova in Ancona.
He begins touring in 1989 and, besides all of Italy, he performs on European (Sweden, Finland, Belgium, Luxemburg, Germany, France, Switzerland, Spain) and extra-European (South Africa, Egypt, Australia, New Zealand, Argentina, Venezuela, Mexico and Canada) stages.
Giuliano has also introduced innovations in the design of the standard four bass diatonic accordion, creating the “Giu-Cam System” which extends the instrument’s performance capabilities.
He later publishes a follow-up to the method with music publisher Physa in Caselle d’Altivole, Treviso containing a selection of traditional Italian and foreign tunes.
He has been awarded several acknowledgements from all over the world including “The prince of the accordion” and “Ambassador of the accordion in the world”, both issued by the city of Castelfidardo, the world capital of the accordion. He also received the title of “Knight of the Arts” in 1991 and a “Career Award” in 2012. His highest achievement was the nomination as “Knight of the Republic” in 2012 by the then President of the Italian Republic Giorgio Napolitano. A cast of his right hand is kept at the “Museum of castings” in Recoaro Terme, Vicenza, together with those of the world’s most famous accordion players.
