Fascist Era Public Security Collection

Between the two world wars, Italian anti-fascists in Australia - including Francesco Carmagnola, Omero Schiassi, Carlo Simeoni and Francesco Fantin - campaigned on behalf of Italian migrant workers and, through Italian-language newspapers, encouraged fellow Italians to oppose the fascist 'upholders of barbarity'. These activities attracted the attention of the Italian Secret Police, whose exiensive dossiers also include reports on visits to Italy by Australian politicians and correspondence with local fascist sympathiser Eric Campbell.

The collection consists of records from the archives of the Italian Ministry of the Interior, Department of Public Security from the period 1924-1939.
